Samaya Norman is a photographer and mixed-media artist currently pursuing a BFA at Columbia College Chicago. Her work considers ideas about the expectations of women, people of color, and queer identity. Samaya’s work is often reflective of her feelings about the fragility one experiences between childhood and adulthood and how growing up in the midwest has informed her creative process. She makes portraits rooted in intimacy, seeking to capture a vulnerability that people hesitate to reveal to the camera and emphasizing the importance of discovering yourself through visual art.
